Weekend in Bogota Colombia

Hot Weekend in Cool Bogota Colombia

How does a Weekend in Bogota Colombia appeal to you?  The vibrant city of Bogota is always on a party mode.  With summer months looming ahead, it's time to plan a weekend in this beautiful and lively city.  To get ahead of the mad dash for hotel rooms, book your reservation online.  It's faster and you are assured a room the moment you show up at the hotel. You can find lots of hotels in Bogota online!

 Weekend Guide

Prime yourself for two days fun in Bogota.  If you are a foodie, you might want to check out the culinary hub to sample their barbecued pork ribs, pumpkin ravioli, and Spanish style tapas.  For shopping, visit the Deimos Arte for wrought iron treasures to add to your decorating efforts back home.

If you want to soak up the history, amble along the La Candelaria.  This was once a colonial center so it not surprising to see terracotta tiled homes dating back to the sixteenth century.  If you want a caffeine fix, wander into one of the coffee shops and enjoy a cup of brewed Colombian coffee.  The place is teeming with authentic Colombian architecture, something you can't see anywhere else.

Enjoy an infamous bullfight at the Plaza Santa Maria during Sundays.  However, be sure that you're up for the blood and goring for this type of attraction is not for the faint of heart.  If you bring you family along, especially the children, a bullfight might not be the best choice to spend your weekend.  You can opt for a more subtle tour of the city.

Instead go to the hills to the village of Villa de Leyva.  Whitewashed stone houses, cobblestone streets, and horse-drawn carriages are still around.  Stay for a night in a bed and breakfast if you want to explore the old temples on the hillside and treat your children to the glorious site of a dinosaur skeleton said to be 100 million years old.

Back in the city visit the numerous museums showcasing the history of Bogota and Colombia.  You should also bring your family to the renowned Cathedral Del Sal, which is a church built entirely from a salt mine.  It is one of the greatest man-made wonders of the country and is absolutely one of a kind.

During weekend nights, you and your family can enjoy a great meal at any of the exquisite restaurants around the city.  If you are traveling with a group of friends, you can go bar-hopping and the city's numerous bars and pubs for an all-nighter.  Before flying back home the next day, ask the hotel to hire a mariachi band to serenade your wife when you have candle-lit dinner.  That would be a very romantic close to your Bogota weekend.
