A Summer in Bogota Colombia
Sweet Summer captures the summer mood and that mood should take you to Bogota, Colombia, where the hot summer days are quenched by occasional rain. Rain or no rain, there's so much to enjoy indoors and outdoors during a summer getaway to Bogota, one of the greatest places to visit during summer time.
Bogota's Eats and Beats
Bogota has an allure all its own. It has an interesting blend of the new and the old, of a city teeming with modern architecture and also a perfect stage to showcase its colorful past. Tourists and expats who have gone to Bogota are surprised to find themselves falling in love with the place and the people. They also love the great food, which is cheap, and the great fun they had. The best time to visit Bogota is during summer when summer blooms are a riot of colors and the city is in a fiesta mood.
Tourists who want the noise and the bustle of the city should spend the Sundays shopping at the flea market. The sights, sounds, and smells are part of the experience at Carrera 7 or Calle 24. The flea market has everything from antiques to DVDs.
There's the food at the Zona Rosa, on the northern side of Bogota. You can find the famous Bogota empanadas and salpicon or fruit punch here in the T Zone - a predominantly pedestrian zone. The place is more affluent and there are several hotels that charge reasonable rates for an overnight stay.
Bogota night life also swings on the Pink Zone. The place is the trendiest night spots for tourists who want to party, drink, and dance. If you want to salsa and rock, just follow the beat to the Pink Zone, or head to further north.
Hike to the Skies
If the noisy nightlife or throngs of tourists are not your thing, then get away. Picture yourself on top of a rocky mountain in El Cucuy National Park. The silence of the mountains is deafening, except for the fresh mountain breeze whispering in your ear. It's not an easy climb but this is a gem of a climb toward some the snow capped peaks. Unlike the overused Mt. Kilimanjaro, the peaks of El Cucuy are not packed with climbers. In the evening, you can put up for the night in one of the base camps and gaze at the bright starry sky. It's great experience for anyone who wants a different summer break and to commune with nature.
