Bogota Weather
Bogota is the capital of Colombia and it has a population of almost 7 million people. This is a major city on a global scale and because of this; there is a great deal of tourism in the region. Despite the stereotype that Columbia is full of crime, there are some very nice places to visit while you are in the city. Also, due to the country's attempts at expanding its economy, there is a great deal of business to be done here as well, which means that more and more people are visiting this location. The city is located near the center of Colombia and it is 8661 feet above sea level, making it the third highest major city in the world in terms of altitude. Bogota is also a cultural hub for South America, as it has many different universities, libraries, and museums for people to explore while they visit the city.
While in the city, many visitors take advantage of the high plateaus that are found in the area. This is not a typical city because of its high elevation, so it is much cooler than many other parts of South America. Much of the economy is based on agriculture, which is driven by a river that runs through the city, and Bogota is able to produce many different crops due to the climate. If you are visiting the city, make sure that you are aware of the drastic changes in climate that are present there, as it can be quite the contrast from the rest of the country.
In basic terms, Bogota weather is a subtropical highland climate, which is very unique to this region. The average temperature of the city is 14 degrees Celsius, with the temperate going anywhere from 3 degrees to 25 degrees over the course of the year. The winter is the driest time in the city, as there is very little precipitation between December and March. May, April, October, and November traditionally have the most rain, although there is very little temperature drop associated with this rain. In fact, the temperature in Bogota remains right around its medium for most of the year, which makes visiting this city very predictable weather wise. August is usually very sunny in Bogota, although there are sometimes high winds during this month as well. The only time that this city sees significant climate changes is during El Niño and La Niña, as these two phenomenons can bring about hotter or colder weather when they come into effect. It is also important to keep in mind that the wind does pick up on most nights, so nights all year around have the potential to become cold, but this will not be a surprise since it is like this all the time.
