Bogota Colombia map

Bogota Colombia: Take a map when you go sightseeing

If you're planning a trip to Colombia, then you should certainly visit Bogota, Colombia. Not only is Bogota the capital of the nation, but it's also the most populated city in Colombia (about 7.3 million in 2009). Also, the land itself comprises the largest area in the entire nation. Containing several libraries and universities, people often refer to Bogota as "The Athens of South America."

A conquistador, searching for the El Dorado, "The Golden City," founded the city after discovering the region. Purchasing a quality map will help to guide you through Bogota's magical blend of colonial and contemporary structures. Another interesting contrast in Bogota is the blend of equatorial humidity, with the cooler temperatures of its high altitude.

When staying in Bogota, a quality map can help to guide you to the various sites in the city. One play that you should include in your itinerary, is the Museum of Modern art of Bogota. The museum includes a huge collection of artworks (including sculptures, paintings, and engravings), from both past and present artists.

The National Museum is another must-see tourist attraction in Bogota. In fact, it's the oldest museum throughout Colombia. Constructed in 1813, this building resembles a fortress. The structure contains several arches, columns and domes, as well as over 100 prison cells. Regular exhibits at the museum include various findings in the region, ranging from early Colombian history, to the 1900s.

A quality map of Bogota can also lead you to the Gold Museum, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. That's because it contains an exquisite collection of gold objects created before colonial times. It reveals the lifestyle and beliefs of different classes that lived in the region, prior to its interaction with Europe. One of the museum's two exhibition rooms is the largest in the entire world! The museum's most valuable collection is the golden raft representing the El Dorado ceremony, which was discovered in Pasca.

If you're in the mood for shopping, then you'll want to spend some time at Unicentro. It provides you the chance to purchase a wide variety of products from the past and present. Unicentro includes several retail stores that will help you to find virtually anything you're looking for. In particular, it's a fantastic place to find all of your souvenirs.

Finally, there are several parks that you can visit while in Bogota. They're perfect for all types of exercising, including walking, running, and cycling. The main parks include the National Park, the Metropolitan Park Simon Bolvar, and The Park of The Independence. Each of these parks has its own look and feel.

Before your trip to Bogota, be certain to book your holiday apartment online. This will guarantee you lodging once you arrive in the city.
